Joyously constrained
Maybe it’s because of all those years working in a technical capacity. I don’t know. What I do know is complete, unrestricted freedom to do whatever I want more often than not ends in disappointment. I like having goals, things that I can hold up as a measurement of success or failure. I don’t like it when everything is subjective.
Design school is a good example of a subjective environment: if I ask 10 people for an opinion, I’ll end up with 11 opinions. How is a guy supposed to succeed in an environment like that?
