What’s an erat? And what the hell is a CanyonJam?

“erat” is simple: first letter of first name (Erik) + first three letters of last name (Ratcliffe). Ingenious, eh?

Beyond the silly name, I’m a graphic design student, graphic artist (sorta), former Linux weenie, current FreeBSD weenie, published author, Toyota driver, book reader, investor, complainer… I could go on, but why? You stopped reading after “published author” anyway.

As for CanyonJam… Not long after moving to Utah, my brother and I hit an outdoor jazz and microbrew festival up at Snowbird. The glasses that were given out for beer samples had a cool, gold retro emblem thingamajig on the side with various instruments associated with jazz and the word “CanyonJam” below. Lacking a name for the tiny network we set up in our apartment, we called it “canyonjam.net.” I guess the name stuck.
