Wow, I had the strangest dream…

…I dreamt that I had a blog. The blog ran Wordpress. I decided Wordpress sucked ass, then I tried other blog and CMS software.

Then my basement got flooded after a hurricane hit the coast of Oregon and I took down my web server. It stayed down a long, long time, then I brought it back up with Textpattern as my blog software.

Then I blew away Textpattern when I found that I couldn’t import my old Wordpress blog entries and decided to hold my nose and use Wordpress again. I changed the name of the blog from “Erik’s Blog” to “Meat.”

Then I removed my energy mask and I was Cameron Diaz. Then…

Wait, was it a dream? It sure felt real.

Wordpress upgraded, already throwing hands in the air

I upgraded from version 2.0.3 (I think) to 2.1. Already my styling ifIS going down the toilet.

You know, I don’t feel like messing with it right now. If you see oddities, feel free to let me know and I’ll fix them some day.

By order of the management…

…all posts in the month of January will be translated into German and then translated back into English using one of the popular online translation services. We are doing this because we can.

All comments in the month of January that do not also follow this procedure will be at risk of deletion. You have been warned.

Welcome to the 21st century of blogging

Yep, there’s some styling that needs to be done. In fact, there’s a lot of styling that needs to be done. This blog doesn’t look all that much like my last one, that’s for sure. But I think it’s good enough now to make the switch. I’ll pretty it up later.

For those who don’t want to scroll endlessly down to see the bottom line of this page, I’m running Wordpress. I plan on a 100% re-design this summer so I’m really not all that upset that this blog isn’t identical to my last one. It’s a placeholder for what’s coming later.

I decided to usher in the new era of Erik’s Blog with a blog post directly from Flickr. I’ve never been able to do this with my old blog software because I never got around to writing MetaWeblogApi support for it. Why bother? Wordpress already has it.

‘Kay, I’ll stop blathering. Enjoy… (And yes, I know old posts have styling issues and are not categorized. I can live with this.)

Considering WordPress…again…

I just read a glowing review of WordPress over at zeldman.com. After 11 years of hand-coding, Jeff decided it was time to switch to a content management system (CMS). After evaluating the scene, WordPress won.

I’ve used WordPress a few times and think it’s a good system. However, every time I try a new CMS I always end up going back to the simple, featureless software that I wrote for this blog. Part of the fun of this thing is doing my own programming. Nobody can claim my software because it’s MINE: I created the stylesheets, I did the design, I coded the database interaction, I coded the basic admin interface, I created the hela-cool AJAX comment system, I coded the RSS and ATOM feed creation scripts all by my onesies, blah blah blah.

Still, I’m considering trying WordPress once again. Maybe when school’s out.
